Weltabitur IB (International Baccalaureate Diploma)
Das International Baccalaureate, bekannt unter der AbkürzungIB, ist einegemeinnützige Stiftung mit Sitz in der Schweiz, die 1968 in Genf gegründet wurde. Ihre Ziele beschreibt die Stiftung wie folgt: „The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.“ (Auszug aus dem"Leitbild"). Um ihrem Auftrag gerecht zu werden, hat die Stiftung vier Bildungsprogramme für Schüler im Alter zwischen 3 und 19 Jahren entwickelt:
- das „Primary Years Programme“ für 3- bis 12-jährige Schüler
- das „Middle Years Programme“ für 11- bis 16-jährige Schüler
- das „Diploma Programme“ für 16- bis 19-jährige Schüler
- das „Career-related Programme“ für 16- bis 19-jährige Schüler.
Die vier Programme werden von sogenannten „IB World Schools“ angeboten. Prinzipiell kann jede staatliche oder private Schule den Status einer solchen „World School“ erlangen, muss dafür jedoch bestimmte Voraussetzungen erfüllen und offiziell autorisiert werden.
Von besonderem Interesse für deutsche Jugendliche ist in der Regel das zweijährige „Diploma Programme“. Das älteste der drei Programme, das es seit 1968 gibt, kann weltweit an mehr als 2.600 Schulen absolviert werden. Die mit Abstand meisten Schulen, an denen es angeboten wird, liegen in den USA. Die Vereinigten Staaten werden zahlenmäßig gefolgt von Großbritannien und Kanada. Aber auch in Australien und Neuseeland kann das IB Diploma an einer Reihe von Schulen erworben werden. Das „IB Diploma Programme“ kann für viele, muss aber nicht für jeden Schüler der passende Weg zur Hochschulzugangsberechtigung sein, weshalb zur ersten Orientierung auf die Lerninhalte eingegangen werden soll.
Lehrplan und Lerninhalte IB-Diploma Programme
Der Lehrplan umfasst die folgenden sechs akademischen Fachbereiche:

Jeder Schüler belegt insgesamt sechs Fächer und muss aus jeder Gruppe der Gruppen 1 bis 5 ein Fach wählen. So wird ein breites Lernspektrum gewährleistet und eine einseitige Spezialisierung vermieden. Das sechste Fach kann aus Gruppe 6 stammen oder alternativ aus einem der Bereiche 1 bis 5. Im letzten Fall würde der Schüler also aus einer Gruppe zwei Fächer belegen. In Bezug auf das Niveau der Kurse wird zwischen dem „higher level“ und dem „standard level“ unterschieden. Normalerweise werden jeweils drei Fächer im höheren Level und die restlichen drei Fächer im regulären Level absolviert. Unterrichts- und Prüfungssprache an „IB World Schools“ kann sein: Englisch, Französisch oder Spanisch. Fremdsprachen können natürlich in der jeweiligen Fremdsprache gelehrt werden.
Zusätzlich zu den sechs Fächern gibt es drei weitere Anforderungen an die Schüler des „IB Diploma Programme“. Diese werden als die drei„core requirements“bezeichnet und als Bestandteil des Lehrplans betrachtet. Jeder Schüler verfasst innerhalb der zwei Jahre einen ausführlichen Aufsatz („Extended Essay“), also eine Facharbeit, mit inhaltlichem Bezug zu einem der sechs belegten Fächer oder zum Fach „World Studies“. Hierdurch werden die Schüler unter anderem zum selbstständigen Arbeiten angeleitet. Alle Schüler besuchen zudem den Kurs „Theory of Knowledge“, auf Deutsch „Erkenntnistheorie“, aus dem Fachgebiet der Philosophie. Teilnehmen muss jeder Schüler außerdem an Aktivitäten im Rahmen von „CAS“, wobei die Abkürzung für die englischen Begriffe „creativity“, „action“ und „service“ steht. Die Jugendlichen engagieren sich für mindestens drei Stunden pro Woche über den eigentlichen Unterricht hinaus im künstlerisch-kreativen, sportlichen oder sozialen-ehrenamtlichen Bereich. Die Aktivitäten dienen als Ausgleich zum akademischen Lernen.
Prüfungen und IB-Abschluss
Das „IB Diploma Programme“ wird am Ende des Programms mit zentralen schriftlichen Prüfungen abgeschlossen, die von externen Prüfern benotet werden. Zusätzlich fließen weitere Leistungen wie mündliche Beiträge im Fremdsprachenunterricht, Laborarbeiten in den Naturwissenschaften oder Auftritte im Bereich Theater oder Musik in die Bewertung mit ein. Benotet wird jedes Fach auf einer Punkteskala von 1 (schlechteste Note) bis 7 (beste Note). Zum Erwerb des Abschlusses müssen mindestens 24 Punkte erlangt werden (pro Fach jeweils 4 Punkte, die einem „bestanden“ gleichkommen), die maximal erreichbare Punktzahl ist 45 (pro Fach die Punktzahl von je 7 Punkten plus jeweils den einen zu erreichenden Punkt pro „core requirement“). Pro Prüfungsblock, der unabhängig vom Gastland oder der besuchten Schule immer im Mai und November eines Jahres stattfindet, bestehen weltweit erfahrungsgemäß 80 Prozent der Schüler die Prüfungen und erhalten somit das IB Diploma. Weniger als ein Prozent erzielt dabei die maximale Punktzahl von 45 Punkten.
Anerkennung des IB Diploma
Der Erwerb des IB Diploma anstelle des jeweils landestypischen Schulabschlusses wird für Schüler auf der ganzen Welt immer attraktiver. (Dazu muss man übrigens nicht notwendigerweise ins Ausland gehen. Das IB Diploma kann auch an einigen deutschen Schulen erlangt werden.) Dies hat sicherlich nicht nur mit der Philosophie und dem Lehrplan zu tun, sondern liegt auch darin begründet, dass das IB Diploma mittlerweile den Status eines „Weltabiturs“ oder „internationalen Abiturs“ erlangt hat. Hochschulen auf der ganzen Welt erkennen das IB Diploma als Hochschulzugangsberechtigung an – wobei man sich vorab über die Richtlinien in möglichen Studienländern informieren sollte. An sich wird das IB Diploma in Deutschland als Hochschulzugangsberechtigung anerkannt, wenn bestimmte Bedingungen erfüllt sind, die im Einzelnen imBeschluss der KMKnachgelesen werden können. Ausländische Schulabschlüsse
Für eine Reihe Jugendlicher ist der Erwerb eines ausländischen Schulabschlusses an einer Privatschule zentral, entweder alternativ oder in Ergänzung zum deutschen Abitur. Je nach Gastland und Schule ist hierfür in der Regel ein Auslandsaufenthalt von mindestens eineinhalb bis zu zwei Jahren notwendig. Mehrheitlich handelt es sich um zweijährige Aufenthalte: Die deutschen Jugendlichen melden sich zu Beginn der „Oberstufe“ bzw. der letzten beiden Schuljahre des Gastlandes an. In den bei deutschen Jugendlichen populärsten englischsprachigen Gastländern sind das die „Sixth Form“ inGB, der „Senior Cycle“ inIrland, „Junior and Senior Year“ oder „Grades 11 and 12“ in denUSA, „Klassen 11 und 12“ inDu hast(bzw. „Secondary IV or V“ in Quebec) sowie „Year 12 and 13“ inNeuseelandundAustralien. Manche Privatschulen, z.B. in den USA, sehen sogar einen noch früheren Einstieg als erforderlich an.
Anerkennung in Deutschland
Schulabschlüsse, die im Ausland erworben wurden, können unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen einem deutschen Schulabschluss gleichgestellt werden. Den Zeugnisanerkennungsstellen der Bundesländer obliegt die Entscheidung über die Gleichstellung des ausländischen Abschlusses mit dem deutschen Hauptschulabschluss, einem Mittleren Schulabschluss (z.B. Realschulabschluss) sowie der Hochschulreife für berufliche Zwecke, beispielsweisezur Aufnahme einer Berufsausbildung. Über die Datenbank anabin, dem Informationssystem zur Anerkennung ausländischer Bildungsabschlüsse, können die zuständigenZeugnisanerkennungs- und Beratungsstellenaufgerufen werden.
Besonders häufig streben Gastschüler allerdings die Anerkennung ihres ausländischen Abschlusses alsHochschulzugangsberechtigung(Abitur oder Fachhochschulreife) an. Die landestypischen Schulabschlüsse verschiedener Gastländer können zwar im Land selbst zum Hochschulbesuch berechtigen, will der Schüler jedoch nach Deutschland zurückkehren, um ein Studium aufzunehmen, sollte im Vorfeld in Erfahrung gebracht werden, ob und unter welchen Voraussetzungen eine Anerkennung möglich ist. Unter Umständen müssen zusätzlich zum regulären ausländischen Abschluss weitere Prüfungen abgelegt werden oder der im Gastland erworbene Abschluss gestattet ausschließlich ein Studium bestimmter Fachrichtungen. Für Jugendliche, die zum Zeitpunkt derPlanung des Auslandsaufenthaltsbereits definitiv wissen, was sie studieren wollen, wird dies kein Hinderungsgrund sein. Im Gegenteil: Diesen Jugendlichen kommt eine frühe fachliche Spezialisierung oft entgegen. Schülern, die sich noch nicht frühzeitig festlegen können, wird ein fachbezogener Schulabschluss unter Umständen Probleme bereiten, da er sie bei der Studienwahl in ihrer Wahlfreiheit einschränkt.
Für die Anerkennung ausländischer Sekundarabschlüsse zum Zwecke der Hochschulzulassung sind je nach Bundesland die deutschen Hochschulen direkt zuständig, oder aber zentrale Zeugnisanerkennungsstellen, die z.B. beim Kultusministerium angesiedelt sind. In einigen Bundesländern gibt es beide Optionen. Möchten Schüler sich für ein zulassungsbeschränktes Fach bewerben, können sie sich mit dem Anliegen der Anerkennung auch direkt anHochschulstartwenden. Dies ist die Nachfolgeeinrichtung der Zentralstelle für die Vergabe von Studienplätzen (ZVS). Hochschulstart nimmt die Bewertung der ausländischen Zeugnisse in eigener Zuständigkeit und für die eigenen Zwecke vor. Es ist nicht erforderlich, dass sich die Bewerber im Vorfeld anderweitig um eine Anerkennung kümmern. Eine Zeugnisanerkennungsbescheinigung stellt Hochschulstart nicht aus.

Perhaps unsurprisingly to some, History HL is the social science with the lowest average score that the IB offers. The average score sits at 4.29, with 3x as many people failing the class as getting a 7.
Subject Ease
The IB Math Application and Interpretation is easier than the Analysis and Approaches because, at the very least, you can use the help of a calculator to write all your exams. Analysis and Approaches can be somewhat challenging, as you have to do more calculus.
To qualify for the award of the IB Diploma a student must receive a combined score of 24 points across 6 subjects with at least 12 points from higher level subjects and a minimum of 9 points from standard level subject.
